SFS 6002 Electrical Safety: Your Complete Guide – Powered by TVA’s FAQ

sfs 6002 electrical safety training. Häns of an electrian working with wiring.

If you work with electrical installations or near live electrical equipment in Finland, SFS 6002 training is a legal requirement. Whether you’re an electrician, a contractor, or simply someone whose work brings them close to electrical hazards, you need to know the rules, stay compliant, and, most importantly, stay safe.

But what’s involved in SFS 6002 training? How long does it take? And how can you make the process as smooth as possible?
We’ve combined the essentials of the SFS 6002 standard with TVA’s most frequently asked questions to bring you a clear, practical guide from sign-up to certification.

What Is SFS 6002 and Why It Matters

SFS6002 is a standard, which outlines how electrical work should be planned, performed, and supervised to prevent accidents and injuries.

Our training is based on the Finnish national SFS 6002 electrical safety standard and its fifth edition, which was published in February 2025. The update was driven by the revision of the European reference standard EN 50110-1, released in 2023.

Employers are responsible for ensuring that their employees are trained according to SFS 6002 and need to hold a training record. This training is mandatory for anyone who performs electrical work or operates in environments where electrical hazards may exist. To manage risks people need to know electrical hazards and also be competent in their work. They also need to be aware of what not to do!

According to statistics made by Finnish authority Safety and Chemical agency TUKES, most fatal electrical accidents in Finland have happened to non-professionals. This also explains why all Electrical works and operations are strictly regulated.  SFS 6002 standard explains how operational procedures will be done and by whom. The goal is obviously to manage electrical hazards and ensure that only competent personnel will perform certain tasks. Electrical safety SFS 6002 training itself does not make anyone an electrically skilled professional but training will also clarify what kind of tasks are suitable for lay men and what they are allowed to do. As an example, a lay man, like a tenant, can test residual current device or change a normal light bulb and, and… well this is just short post so, do the course and you’ll see.
